Science
Discover how we build curious, confident young scientists through hands-on learning, field trips, and enrichment programmes.
Department Vision
Active Inquirers, Lifelong and Confident Learners
Department Mission
Develop scientifically literate learners with strong scientific knowledge, conceptual understanding and reasoning through meaningful inquiry and authentic learning experiences.
Nurture curiosity and empower students to think critically, solve problems creatively and apply Science meaningfully to understand the world around them.
Cultivate confident and self-directed learners who demonstrate the values, dispositions and collaborative skills needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.
Science Experiences And Programmes
Guided by the Ministry of Education’s Science Curriculum Framework, the Science Department at Nan Chiau Primary School nurtures scientifically literate learners who are curious about the world around them and confident in applying scientific knowledge and practices to everyday life.
Our curriculum combines inquiry-based learning, hands-on investigations, collaborative discussions and authentic learning experiences to develop students’ conceptual understanding, scientific reasoning and problem-solving skills. Technology is purposefully integrated to support self-directed learning, while STEM design challenges, environmental education and enrichment programmes extend learning beyond the classroom and inspire students to become responsible lifelong learners.
Inquiry-based Learning
Inquiry is at the heart of Science learning at NCPS. Students develop scientific understanding by asking questions, making observations, planning and carrying out investigations, gathering and analysing evidence, and communicating explanations based on evidence. Through carefully designed inquiry experiences, students deepen their conceptual understanding, strengthen scientific reasoning and problem-solving skills, and develop the curiosity, confidence and habits of mind of young scientists. Guided by the Practices of Science, students learn to make sense of the world around them and apply their scientific knowledge in meaningful and responsible ways.

Learning Journeys
Learning journeys are an integral part of the Science curriculum at NCPS. They provide authentic opportunities for students to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences through observation and inquiry. By exploring Science in natural and everyday environments, students deepen their understanding of scientific concepts while appreciating how Science helps explain the world around them.
As part of the Primary 3 Science curriculum, students participate in a curriculum-linked learning journey where they observe and explore living things in their natural environment. Through guided observations and investigations, students apply the scientific knowledge and inquiry skills learnt in class to gather evidence, make sense of their observations and communicate their findings. These meaningful experiences nurture curiosity and inspire students to become keen observers of the natural world.

Science@Recess
Science@Recess provides students with opportunities to discover the fun of Science beyond the classroom through short, hands-on activities conducted during recess. Designed to spark curiosity and encourage exploration, these bite-sized experiences make Science engaging, accessible and enjoyable for all students.
Through simple investigations and interactive challenges, students explore everyday scientific phenomena, ask questions and apply scientific concepts learnt in class. Science@Recess reinforces classroom learning while encouraging students to collaborate with their peers, share their ideas and develop confidence in learning Science in an informal setting.
Young Scientist Badge Scheme
The Young Scientist Badge Scheme provides Primary 3 and 4 students with opportunities to extend their learning beyond the classroom through self-directed and hands-on Science activities. The programme encourages students to explore different areas of Science while nurturing curiosity and a lifelong interest in scientific inquiry.
Through a range of practical and investigative activities, students apply scientific concepts and inquiry skills while exploring topics that interest them. The programme encourages students to take ownership of their learning, develop perseverance and build confidence as they investigate, reflect on and communicate their findings. These experiences complement classroom learning and support the development of scientifically literate learners who are curious, reflective and confident in learning Science.

E2K Science
The Excellence 2000 (E2K) Science Programme is an enrichment programme developed by the Ministry of Education’s Gifted Education Branch for selected Primary 4 and 5 students who demonstrate strong interest and aptitude in Science. Through an inquiry-based approach, students investigate advanced scientific concepts that extend beyond the regular curriculum.
The programme develops students’ scientific inquiry skills while nurturing the habits, attitudes and dispositions of young scientists. Students work collaboratively to investigate scientific phenomena, analyse evidence and communicate their ideas, while strengthening important 21st Century Competencies, including critical and inventive thinking, effective communication and collaboration.
