PE, Art and Music (PAM)
Discover how we nurture students’ knowledge, skills, and values through Physical Education, Art, and Music across six years of holistic learning, while developing key 21st Century Competencies such as critical and inventive thinking, communication, collaboration, and social-emotional resilience.
The Physical Education, Art and Music curriculum plays a vital role in the holistic development of students at Nan Chiau Primary School. It supports the nurturing of the whole child by integrating physical, aesthetic, cognitive and social-emotional learning experiences.
The overarching aim of Physical Education, Music and Art education is to develop students across three key domains: Knowledge, Skills and Values. Through a structured and progressive curriculum, students acquire foundational knowledge, develop discipline-specific and transferable skills, and cultivate positive values and dispositions.
These learning experiences are designed to support the development of 21st Century Competencies, including critical and inventive thinking, communication and collaboration, and social-emotional competencies such as self-awareness, self-management and responsible decision-making. Collectively, the curriculum empowers students to become confident, active and reflective learners who appreciate the arts, value healthy living, and contribute meaningfully to the community.
By the end of their six years of primary education at Nan Chiau Primary School, every student will be:
equipped with the knowledge, skills and positive attitudes to build lifelong habits that support an active and healthy lifestyle;
aesthetically aware and culturally grounded through meaningful and enjoyable experiences in the visual and performing arts, including music;
imbued with a sustained interest in, and appreciation for, the Arts as an integral part of life and personal well-being.
Talent development in PAM
Students are provided with opportunities to apply the skills and knowledge acquired during Physical Education lessons through participation in intra- and inter-class games and competitions. Students who demonstrate aptitude and interest are identified and recommended to join the school teams for further development.
In the Aesthetics domain, students are given platforms to excel in Art and Music through a range of school-based opportunities, such as concerts, mass singing, and internal art competitions. Through these experiences, students are able to showcase their talents, build confidence, and deepen their appreciation for the arts.
Students who exhibit strong interest and talent are further nurtured through participation in external platforms and competitions, including the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF). These opportunities provide authentic contexts for students to strive for excellence, develop resilience, and represent the school at a higher level.
PLAY@Recess
Guided by the Reggio Emilia approach, the environment is positioned as the “third teacher,” supporting joyful learning through multisensory experiences and flexible spaces that cater to diverse learners and nurture curiosity-driven exploration. This is extended through thoughtfully designed outdoor learning environments that build 21st Century Competencies (21CC) such as critical and inventive thinking, collaboration, and social-emotional skills through curiosity, play, and discovery, in alignment with the school’s LLP.
Dedicated spaces such as the Read-and-Return Corner, Quiet Quarters, Steppers, Mindful Garden Walk, Doodle Board, and board games at the foyer provide students with varied opportunities for self-directed learning, reflection, creativity, and social interaction.
Students are also encouraged to keep fit and active by engaging in sports and games during recess. Designated play areas, including the playground and school field, are set aside to support safe and purposeful play. Our PE Captains are trained and empowered to manage the loan of PE equipment, facilitating unstructured yet meaningful play experiences. Parent Support Group (PSG) volunteers further support these sessions by supervising and ensuring the safety and well-being of students.

Harnessing of Technology
Physical Education
At Nan Chiau Primary School, technology is seamlessly integrated into various aspects of school life, including Physical Education (PE). Recognizing the potential of educational technology (EdTech) to enrich learning experiences, the PE Department has strategically adopted innovative digital tools to enhance the delivery and impact of PE lessons-particularly in areas such as gymnastics and outdoor education.
Using tablets and video analysis applications, students are empowered to take an active role in their learning journey. Additionally, peer feedback is encouraged through structured activities where students use these EdTech tools to review each other's performances and provide constructive suggestions. This not only strengthens their understanding of movement concepts but also builds communication and collaboration skills.

Overall, the purposeful integration of technology in PE at Nan Chiau Primary School aims to cultivate self-directed learners who are engaged, reflective, and confident in applying movement skills across different contexts.
Aesthetics (Art & Music)

Nan Chiau Primary School (NCPS) integrates educational technology into its Art and Music curriculum to foster a student-centric and innovative learning environment. The school leverages mobile technologies to enhance teaching and learning, enabling students to engage meaningfully with creative subjects through digital platforms.
To further support inquiry-based learning, students are guided to use the Student Learning Space (SLS) and SALiS to hone their questioning and research skills, encouraging greater ownership of their learning. These platforms provide opportunities for students to explore, investigate, and reflect, while developing critical and inventive thinking competencies.
