The Global Awareness Programme (G.A.P) is a signature programme designed to foster a collective identity and an international outlook among students in Nan Chiau Primary School.
Core Objectives
The Global Awareness Programme strives to empower students to:
stay rooted to their heritage while setting their sights afar;
develop global awareness and cross-cultural skills and sensitivities;
establish network and build friendship across borders and cultures;
deepen students’ rootedness to Singapore
Key Programme Components
School Anniversary Celebrations
Honouring the school's rich history, annual events like the "Nan Chiau, Our Story Our Pride" celebration bring together generations of alumni, distinguished guests, and current students to share heritage, showcase talents, and reinforce the school's legacy.
The celebration witnesses a get-together of generations of Nan Chiau alumnus coming forward to showcase their talents and share their fond memories of their alma mater.
Overseas Learning Journeys (Primary 5)
Selected Primary 5 students have the opportunity to participate in experiential overseas learning journey to Seoul and Xiamen . These journeys are structured to help students experience diverse languages and cultures firsthand, build international friendships, and widen their global perspectives.
Sharing best practices with Foreign Educators and Students
Nan Chiau Primary School proudly extends a warm welcome to international educators and student visitors through our vibrant school immersion and exchange programmes. These visits offer a meaningful platform for cultural exchanges, allowing our students to showcase their bilingual heritage, share local traditions, and forge lasting cross-border friendships with peers from around the world.
By sharing our best practices and learning from our global guests through interactive classrooms learning activities, we hope to cultivate a dynamic environment where Nan Chiau teachers and students put “Rooted in Nan Chiau, Setting our Sights afar” “心系南侨，放眼世界” into action, developing into confident, empathetic, and globally-minded citizens.
Overseas Pen Pal Programme
Guided by the saying "Long distance separates no bosom friends" (海内存知己，天涯若比邻), Nan Chiau believes in the importance of establish network and build friendship across borders and cultures.
Our Overseas Penpal Programme (P3) links our students with overseas peers through structured formats such as letter writing, virtual exchanges, and collaborative project work to build early cross-cultural bridges.
Celebration of International Friendship Day and Cultural Festivals
Global awareness is integrated into core school events. During International Friendship Day and various cultural celebrations, students explore the languages, traditions, and customs of different ethnic groups. These events often extend outward, encouraging students to share festive joy with the local Sengkang community.
