Programme for Active Learning (PAL)
Find out how we help Primary 1 and 2 pupils build character and social skills through arts, sports, and outdoor activities.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
At Nan Chiau Primary School, we believe that a child's growth extends far beyond academic achievement. The Programme for Active Learning (PAL) is our commitment to nurturing well-rounded, confident, and socially aware learners from the very start of their primary school journey.

What is PAL?
PAL is a recommended initiative by the Primary Education Review and Implementation (PERI) Committee, designed to give Primary 1 and 2 students a rich and balanced school experience. Through hands-on, experiential learning across four exciting modules — Outdoor Education, Sports & Games, Visual Arts, and Performing Arts — students are given the space to discover their strengths, explore their interests, and develop important life skills in a fun and supportive environment.
At NCPS, PAL lessons are conducted by our teachers, ensuring that learning happens within a familiar and trusting relationship. Since embarking on our PAL journey in 2015, we have continued to refine and enrich our programmes to make every lesson meaningful and enjoyable for our youngest learners.

What Your Child Will Gain
Through PAL, students develop skills and values that go beyond the classroom, including confidence in expressing themselves, resilience when facing new challenges, teamwork and cooperation with their peers, and a sense of curiosity and love for learning.

Our PAL Modules
Outdoor Education encourages students to explore the natural environment, develop an appreciation for nature, and build resilience and problem-solving skills through outdoor experiences.
Sports & Games develops physical literacy, teamwork, and sportsmanship as students engage in a variety of fun and active games together.
Visual Arts nurtures creativity and self-expression as students explore different art forms, materials, and techniques to bring their imagination to life.
Performing Arts builds confidence and communication skills as students express themselves through music, drama, and movement.

Learning Journeys
To bring learning to life, PAL is complemented by purposeful learning journeys that take students beyond the classroom and into the wider world. These excursions give students the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge they have gained through their PAL modules in real-world settings, deepening their understanding and making learning truly meaningful.
Whether exploring nature, experiencing the arts, or engaging with their community, students return from each learning journey with a greater sense of curiosity, confidence, and connection to the world around them.
